The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team probing the Gujarat riots cases has given a clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a post-Godhra riots case citing that there is no substantial evidence to show that the CM willfuly allowed the carnage.

The SIT, which was investigation a case filed by Zakia Jafri, wife of late Congress MP Ehsaan Jafry who was killed by rioters in the Gulbarga Society housing Complex Zakia, alleged that Modi as the then chief minister wilfully stopped the police from stopping the rioters from attacking the society.

The SIT had informed the Supreme Court that it had completed investigations into the murder of Congress MP Ehsaan Jafry during the riots.

The SIT had interrogated Modi for nine hours in March this year.
