Ahmedabad got its biggest sporting complex when chief minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naroda on Wednesday. Equipped with all modern day amenities, the complex is spread over an area of 40,000sq metre.

Narendra Modi“We want Gujarat to progress in all spheres, including sports. That is why we have come up with such an ultra modern sports complex. I hope Amdavadis will make maximum use of this and excel at the national level. It will hurt me if youngsters give this opportunity a miss,” said Modi, who also urged the coaches to put great efforts to produce future champions here.

The complex, which will be maintained by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, has room for a variety of sports, from gymnasium room to swimming pool, tennis courts and football ground to badminton court.

Meanwhile, not missing the opportunity to take a dig at his political rivals with civic elections coming up, Modi made a scathing attack on the Congress in his speech. He said the ruling party at the Centre has given supari, a contract, to CBI to tarnish the image of Gujarat. “They are jealous of our state’s development and want to stop it. But we will not get scared by it and continue our efforts,” Modi said.
