Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday appealed to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to lift ban on cotton exports imposed recently and also remove export duty on cotton with immediate effect.

In a letter written to the Prime Minister, Mr. Modi said the decision has affected lakhs of cotton growing farmers in the state which accounts for 33 per cent of cotton produce in the country and 50 per cent of export.

“The farmers of Gujarat have produced cotton even after adverse monsoon and rising prices of agricultural inputs. But there is no system of support prices for cotton crop. The centre has created a situation where farmers will have no option but to fight,” he said in the letter.

“Cotton is the most important cash crop in Gujarat. It has improved rural economy in the state and lakhs of farmers have become prosperous due to cotton farming. Thanks to cotton exported to China, Thailand, Indonesia and Turkey, the farmers of Gujarat earn good price for their produce,” he added.

In India ever thing is linked to politics and corruption. Whether it is cricket or cotton. Both are same. The UPA government is headed by Congress wants to create problems to Modi led BJP government directly and people in general so that in the next elections they can blame Modi for all the problems and beg for votes. But in the process people are suffering. At least Manmohan Singh should understand this be away from this dirty politics because he is a scholar first and a politician next.
