Chief minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that Gujarat will lead the second green revolution in the country, and also expressed confidence that this will change the lives of farmers in the state.
Addressing a public gathering at the Krishi Mela in Navsari, Modi said that in spite of various policies and schemes introduced by the central government, the country’s agricultural growth rate has not gone over 2.5%, while Gujarat has created a record of sorts by achieving 10% growth in farming.
“The agriculture sector in Gujarat alone has consistently grown by four to five times the national growth rate over the last seven years,” he said.
Modi said that many people had mocked him in 2001-02 when he had expressed resolve that Gujarat would lead the second green revolution in the country. He also called for more research in agriculture sector for increasing farm produce.
“However, continuous hard work of the past seven years and planned efforts in the form of Krishi Mahotsavas have resulted in the green revolution taking shape in Gujarat. Farmers of the state deserve all the praise for this,” he said.
The CM released a booklet and eight souvenirs, and also felicitated four progressive farmers on the occasion.
Modi also mentioned that Gujarat has taken the initiative by setting up four agro-climate zones and starting institutes for research and education in the field of agro technology. He also spoke about the changes achieved in farming by introduction of modern and scientific ways, and expressed his government’s resolve to continuously work for uplift of farmers.
